5 Little Things we explored flying with a newborn!

1. Bring a Playing mat so your small one can stretch.

We brought the floor of our activity mat with us. When we were waiting around the airport, Coen played on his tummy and stretched on his back. This kept his entertained in a different position than in the buggy or lap.

2. Look out for Babies Ears!

Our doctor told us to use nose spray half an hour before start and landing.

We also fed Coen during take off and landing.

As soon as you board the plane ask a flight attendant to warm up your bottle.

I mostly breastfeed during the flight, but for the start and landing it was really handy to have a pumped bottle to make sure he really drinks. As soon as we entered the plane, I gave it to a flight attendance. Before take off they brought me the bottle.

3. Make use of the priority line.

Sure it might seem like a good idea to wait until everyone is on and keep the time on the plane as short as possible, but our flight was booked out and the early arrival at our seats helped us to get organized before we had to share a row with someone. It"s important to not feel rushed, and entering the plane early gives you that extra time to prepare the food, seats and toys!

4. Book your seats online.

If you call early, you might even get one of the baby beds they have for super small ones. The only issue is that they are just available in the first row and to book a seat for your partner next to you costs a fortune. So we booked one aisle and one window seat, hoping that we get lucky and get the whole row to ourselves. Unfortunately our flight was completely booked out and we had someone in between us. This was not an issue as they were more than happy to switch to the window seat so we could sit together.

5. It’s going to be better than you think!

I was so worried before the flight which I soon learned was totally unnecessary. Coen slept through most of the flight. Something that many people are not aware of until they bring a child is that the airplanes have a constant buzzing noise. Not only do babies like this, it tends to easily drown out the little noises they make, letting you feel relaxed that you are not in a library setting with no other noises!
